Ulster completed their four match “Italian Job” with a 13 – 6 win at a wet and windy Ravenhill on Friday evening. The sequence of matches against Zebre and Treviso see’s Ulster top of their pool in the Heineken Cup and second in the PRO12 but there are a few more testing fixtures in the next four weeks.
With Leinster, Munster, Montpellier and Leicester up next Ulster Coach Mark Anscombe took advantage of this match against lowly Zebre to have a look at the depth of the squad but it’s hard to say how much he will have gleaned from this stilted performance in difficult conditions.
It would be somewhat churlish of me to say that some of the players didn’t turn up, as the weather and the quality off the opposition put me off making the trip to HQ, but from my comfortable position on the sofa, fortified by a bottle of wine, I was a little disappointed that some of the players didn’t grab their opportunity with a bit more authority.
