Enniskillen celebrate after their 17 – 15 win against Garda.

There was only one game this weekend, and that was a catch up game for a previously rearranged fixture between Enniskillen and Garda.

On a surprisingly sunny Saturday afternoon, Enniskillen took home the win 17 – 15 after a hard fought battle against Garda. The Enniskillen scores came from Etna Flanagan (2), and Paula Cadden.

The first half defense on both sides created a hard wall to break through, keeping the game between the 22s. It was around the 25 minute mark when Garda scored the first try taking the lead 5 – 0. Enniskillen hit back with a trademark run from Flanagan weaved her way through to score between the posts. Ashling Maguire converted and Enniskillen took the lead 7 – 5 with the score remaining unchanged until the break.

It must have been the cloud cover which hovered over the pitch that brought some more energy to the second half. Enniskillen held most possession during the second 40, but both teams scored another two tries. It was Garda who were first to cross in the third quarter with their number eight scoring a well deserved try. However, a fired up Enniskillen hit back with two tries in quick succession with Flanagan crossing for her second and Cadden crossing for the third to take the score to 17 – 10.

As the intensity grew Garda’s number eight crossed for her second try to take the score to 17 – 15 setting up a nail biting finish.  The Skins defense held strong in the final minutes of the game to keep their lead and take the win on Saturday.
