Girls all over Ulster will be polishing up their boots and getting ready to bring the BOOM this Sunday as the Women’s All Ireland League kicks off.
Women’s All Ireland rugby will feature Cooke in Division 1 and Belfast Harlequins, Cavan, City of Derry, Enniskillen and Queen’s University in Division 2 North.
It’s a big season for the Women’s game with Ireland looking to built towards the 2013 Sevens RWC in Moscow and the 2014 RWC in France.
With five Ulster girls in the Ireland panel last season and two in the Seven’s squad the local teams will be looking to increase their representation and The Front Row Union will be bringing you details of the contenders throughout the season.
Our coverage starts this Sunday with Quins v City of Derry at Dermore Park, a match which will feature three Ireland contenders in Nikki Caughey and Ashleigh Baxter for Quins and Stacey Lea Kennedy for CoD in what should be an action packed opener.
Cooke kick off their season with a difficult home match against Connacht side Galwegians in Div 1. After an extensive recruitment drive the Belfast outfit will be looking to improve on a disappointing AIL season last year.
In Division 2 Cavan travel down the N3 to league newcomers Navan with the Ulster side looking to build on a good season last year in what should be a feisty encounter between these two near neighbours.
Enniskillen and Queen’s University have to wait till next week before making their competitive débuts.
