Our favourite Leinster girls, St Mary’s Women’s Rugby Team, are running a predictions competition for the Women’s RBS Six Nations.

Speaking to organiser Una O’Murchu the girls started the competition for three reasons:

One was to build the awareness around the fact that there is also a Women’s Six Nations taking place at the moment.

The second was for those people who are aware to pay more attention to the players and the people taking part. Many of the teams are still amateur but put in the effort of a professional in the run up to these games so its good for them to get some recognition.

Then finally, we decided to use it as a fundraiser. It started off as competition that we were just doing amongst our own team and then we thought that it may be something others would be interested in entering. But as we will be doing all the scoring and results ourselves we thought we would put a cost of €5 on for anyone who wanted to enter and whatever we raise will go towards prizes and our team.

The Front Row Union are happy to back the girls at St Mary’s who are always welcome visitors when they travel up to Ulster in the AIL and to support local 7′s competitions and we certainly agree with the need to give the Irish Women’s team a bit of extra publicity. We’re happy to add one of our “I FRU Women’s Rugby” hoodies and tees to the prize pot and we’d urge all our readers to enter the competition.

You can find competition details on their blog womensixnations.wordpresss.com and on their Facebook site.

If you really know nothing yet about the women’s game, the girls are  putting together some lucky dip teams today with  randomly selected players that you can use to get you started.

Good luck and you can contact the organisers here if you have any questions.
