Who'll get their hands on the Rosie Stewart Cup this season?
It’s the final week of the Division round robin’s, with the Divisions due to come together, according to their placings, in the net round.
Round 4 will see the following fixtures with the top two teams in each Division getting home advantage. (Note: Should Sligo qualify in the top two their fixture will have to be played in Ulster Rugby territory at either an agreed neutral ground or alternatively they can forfeit the home advantage and play at the ground of their opponent.)
East 1 v West 4
East 2 v West 3
West 1 v East 4
West 2 v East 3
This weeks big game in Division East is Cooke v Queens at Shaws Bridge with the students the surprise package of this season’s tournament. Cooke should have the experience to win this one but Queens will be going all out for a bonus point, at least, to ensure a second place finish and that all important home advantage in the next round.
Quins will be pushing hard for a bonus point of their own, against Carrick, in the hope that Queens slip up. The Deramore side have struggled in the absence of their International players and are in danger of letting, what looked like, a very good season peter out with little to show for a marked improvement in their performances.
In Division West the big game will be at Judges Road where, defending Champions, City of Derry will be pushing for a win against Sligo though the Connacht side have proved no push overs this season and will be keen to put pressure on Enniskillen for top spot. However Derry should make home advantage count and, despite last week’s disappointing result against Enniskillen, I’m tipping the home team to come out on top in a close match.
Enniskillen should have enough confidence and ability to see off Cavan, especially as Skins seem to have hit a rich seam of form in the Cup. Cavan are always tough opponents but the confident home side should have enough to win this one with a bit to spare.
