It’s semi final weekend in the Ulster Senior Cup.
City of Derry appear to have had the toughest journey to the semi finals having first to dispose of Belfast Harlequins 24 -22 in the opening round only to face Ballynahinch away in the quarter finals. The Judges Road outfit came through an exciting encounter 34 -40 but will have to pull out another giant killing act to see off Ballymena.
The Braid men had an opening round bye but proved their credentials when they disposed of the cup holders Dungannon at Stevenson Park 9 – 12 in a tense encounter. On paper Ballymena would be clear favourites but with City of Derry’s excellent cup credentials over recent seasons we’re going for the boys from the Maiden City to pull out a win.
In the second semi final, Banbridge should make home advantage count when they entertain Instonians at Rifle Park. Both teams bye’d the opening round with Banbridge disposing off near neighbours Armagh 15-0 in the quarters. Instonians pulled out a win against Queens University with a 26-28 quarter final win but have struggled to find form in the All Ireland League.
