Irrespective of tomorrow’s result the pool still looks well set for Australia to progress serenely and Ireland to progress with probably a few blips and slips along the way. I’m not surprised hat Ireland have put out the No 1 side for the game tomorrow but I am surprised at how bullish they are being. Ireland must look at this game as a much needed practice match and nothing more. I’ll personally be happy if they just find a bit of form, irrespective of the result, get Sexton into the game, sort out the back row and look at an option or two in the centre.

Italy did well in the opening exchanges against the Aussies but run out of bodies and puff at the end and it’s now doubtful if the anticipated second place decider on 2nd October will live up to that billing with a resurgent USA now pumped to claim a Six Nations scalp! This Italy v USA sub plot is now more interesting than the main billing!
