Ards Ladies, who recently celebrated their first anniversary, are on the hunt for new recruits for the coming season.

After a busy first season the girls will now be competing in the Ulster Development League, where they’ll face Malone, Ballyshannon and Letterkenny, among others, over a season long campaign, and the Hamilton Park outfit are eager to recruit new players to boost their ranks.

The Front Row Union caught up with ladies PRO Pauline McFerran who brought us up to date on their progress so far.

The Ladies have had a busy first season, including a first match against a combined Malone/Cooke side, filming Eggheads (soon to be shown on BBC) and a field trip to Newforge to meet some of the Ulster Rugby squad.

However as we’re now going to be playing competitive rugby on a regular basis, with a game scheduled every fortnight, we need to boost our numbers and we’d love more girls from the Ards area to come along and get involved.

Pre-season has already started and we train every Wednesday night at the club from 6:45pm.

We’ve had great support from the club with Ross Reid (who’s now moved on) and Ian Caughey helping out with coaching and we’ve worked hard to create a fun environment and get involved with all aspects of club life, including Super Saturday where we train alongside the men’s teams.

We’re looking for players of all abilities, so if you’d like to give rugby a try then come along to the club on Wednesday and give it a go.

As a prolific tweeter, in the rugby Twitter world, Pauline has certainly been keeping the teams profile high in the rugby community and next season their progress will be reported by our old friends on Harpin’ On Rugby! I’m sure there’ll also be the odd piece in the Front Row Union.

If you’d like to get involved then contact Ian Caughey on 0791 7646 980 or Pauline McFerran on 0770 3665 575 for details, alternatively come along to the club on Wednesday night and join in. Details here.

You don’t need to be able to leap tall buildings in a single bound or run faster than a speeding bullet, but it would help!
