Wolfhounds maul Saxons.

First-half tries from Denis Hurley and skipper Chris Henry gave the Wolfhounds a 20 – 11 victory at a wind-battered Ravenhill.

Didn’t get to this one as I had chosen to watch the U20’s but by all accounts it was a strong performance from the Ulster boys in this match against a strong Saxons side.Seemed I wasn’t th only one to miss with only 2,000 turning up.

Playing with the wind in the first half the big England pack tried to impose themselves from the start. The Ireland scrum was under pressure but the pack performed well in the loose with Mick O’Driscoll and Chris Henry standing out.

Wolfhounds, playing into the fierce gale, made the perfect start when fairly static ball was moved wide and Nevin Spence powered through two tackles to offload to Hurley, who stretched his legs and dived in under the posts after running in from outside the 22.

Humphreys added the extras into the wind.

Chris Henry added the second try after about 25 minutes, breaking from the back of a scrum to barge over and score.

Iain Humphreys had another flawless night with the boot kicking both conversions . . .
