With the disruptive weather already starting to seem like a distant memory, round 2 of the Cup finally got underway last weekend, along with some friendlies, and made the following changes to team positions:
Antrim GS managed to gain direct entry to round 2 this year, avoiding the round 1 rotation, but couldn’t make it count, losing out to a RS Dungannon side who still seem to by riding the high of defeating Bangor back in November. The 35-to-nothing display of domination sees Dungannon move up two places into 24th, while Antrim move the same amount, but in the opposite direction, into 27th.
Grosvenor GS perhaps deserved to be entered at round 3 in this year’s competition considering some close results against stronger opposition; however, there was no hint of self pity against Cambridge House in their round 2 game and Grosvenor have now progressed to the next round where they received a favourable draw against Banbridge Academy, the rankings of the teams being 18th and 16th respectively.
Other, non-competition games this week provided changes at the top, such as BRA narrowly defeating RBAI at home and Friends’ SL claiming victory over Dalriada. All this means that Belfast Inst. stay put in 4th position, but BRA have now moved up into the top 5 just behind them, while Friends’ leapfrog Dalriada into 11th place, their highest rank so far this season.
