Operation flog a dead horse continues as Declan Kidney announces another uninspiring team for the final and pretty meaningless Autumn International match against Argentina on Sunday. KO 2:30pm.
To tell the truth I can’t even whip up the enthusiasm to have a bit of a moan about the lack of foresight in the failure to test any of Ireland’s fringe players throughout this series of friendlies and I won’t be surprised if there is an exodus of young Irish players to foreign teams at the end of the season should the Republic’s tax incentives disappear. Let’s face it if the only means of advancement is through natural wastage of the present incumbents there’s not much point in hanging around.
Here’s the team: (15-9) Geordan Murphy, Tommy Bowe, Brian O’Driscoll, Gordon D’Arcy, Andrew Trimble, Jonathan Sexton, Peter Stringer. (1-8) Cian Healy, Sean Cronin, Tony Buckley, Donncha O’Callaghan, Mick O’Driscoll, Stephen Ferris, David Wallace, Jamie Heaslip. (16-22) Damien Varley, Tom Court, Devin Toner, Denis Leamy, Eoin Reddan, Ronan O’Gara, Keith Earls.

I get so frustrated sometimes, maybe I’m slightly biased though. How is it Peter Stringer who in my eyes is past his best, is continually selected for Ireland while Ulster have Paul Marshall playing out of his skin and is, in my opinion on of the brightest talents around. The Ulster branch reportedly spent 250,000 bringing in Ruan Pienaar, don’t get me wrong he is world class, but did we really have to spend that much to bring in a player who hasn’t really added much depth to the squad. I hope Declan Kidney wakes up and realises that Ulster actually exists and he sees some of the talent we have. And might I add, Craig Gilroy is the new Tommy Bowe!! He’s been awesome these last couple of games let’s hope it continues!!

Hi Simon – sorry I was so late in approving your comment I was down in Galway with Ulster Women’s side. All your future comments will go straight up from now on.
Paul Marshall is playing very well and some of that is down to Pienaar coming over so you have to say it’s money well spent getting two scrum halfs for the price of one.
If you think Gilroy is special wait until Patrick Jackson and Luke Marshall start playing together in a season or two.
Dungannon’s Conor Gaston is another exciting prospect.

Why Tom Court is not starting is a disgrace. He might as well retire from international rugby now as if there is a prop with one leg and one arm left standing in any other province he is going to get picked ahead of the Ulsterman.
