An exhausted Eliza was up early and back at work on Monday morning trying to get bits and pieces sorted before she heads off on the 16th. Everyone in the Ladies Gaelic Football Association has been extremely supportive and encouraging during the lead up to the World Cup.
Lauren had another visit to the doctor, a segment we’ll call ‘Lauren, Hospital Update’, (cue the Casualty theme tune) it will be another 3 weeks until she gets her cast off, but she has been given the OK to start back running which she was delighted about.
Monday night saw another photo shoot, but this time in Cooke RFC grounds which coincided with the start of pre season training for the Ladies and it was great to see some new faces at training.
The theme of the photo shoot was Past, Present and Future players from the Ladies Game in Ulster, the extremely experienced Suzanne Flemming and Rachel Derwin were there.
Both women have notched up a countless number of caps representing Ireland over the years, Suzy has captained Ireland, Ulster and Cooke over the years with Rachel captaining both Ulster and Cooke. The two have been instrumental in the development of Ladies Rugby in Ulster and have been so supportive to Lauren and Eliza over the past few years.
Ashleigh Baxter (Belfast Harlequins Women’s Rugby) and Nikki Caughey (Malone Women’s Rugby) were also present at the shoot, two girls that are making waves through the ranks and that are both instrumental players in the Ulster U19 Regional Development Squad.
With the growth of existing clubs and development of new ladies clubs in Ulster such as Malone and Newtownards its only a matter of time before we see a greater number of girls breaking onto the Ulster and Ireland set up.
