I was pleased to receive a press release yesterday confirming that our friend Justin Fitzpatrick has been appointed Director of Rugby for Dungannon Rugby Club on a two year contract.
The appointment comes after a successful role last season as Technical Advisor for the club and Justin will be joined this season by his London Irish, Ulster and Ireland team mate Kieran Campbell who returns to the club following his time with Connacht. Kieran is returning in a player/coach capacity and his experience both on and off the field will prove invaluable to the squad.
Club Chairman Victor Scarlett adds:
We believe Justin’s extensive playing experience with London Irish, Castres, Ulster and Ireland and his dedication to succeed in coaching allied with his work ethic and enthusiasm will enable Dungannon to compete at the highest level in Ulster and Irish club rugby.
The appointment is a positive commitment to the future of club rugby in Dungannon and Ulster and we have no doubt that we will have a successful and exciting time under Justin’s leadership.
The move is seen a significant step in the clubs attempt to gain promotion to Division 1A of the AIB All Ireland League after retaining their Division 1B status and already the new coaching team and players have made significant strides during pre-season in preparation for the upcoming campaign.
Dungannon certainly have been busy this pre season with their team bonding weekend, an early win over old rivals Ballymena and their Family Fun Day and we’ll be kicking off our Club Rugby coverage this season with their Ulster League fixture against Instonians at Stevenson Park this weekend.
