Andrew Trimble took time out of his busy pre-season to visit the Women’s Eastern Regional Development Squad at Belfast Harlequins on Wednesday night.

The  RDS is for talented players who are under the age of 19. There are three Squads this year – East, South West and North West. The Eastern RDS comprises of players from Malone RFC, Bangor RFC, Belfast Harlequins RFC and Carrick RFC.

Squad manager for the Eastern Region Natalie Bryant adds:

The aim of Regional Development Squads is identify and develop players who have been nominated by their Clubs as having potential to play rugby at the highest levels. In order to do this a tailored programme has been put into place to challenge these young players in all areas of the game.

This is an excellent opportunity for young players who aspire to greatness within the game to hone their skills and then take these learning’s back to their clubs – hopefully raising the standard of youth club rugby.

Andrew watched the girls being put through their paces by head coach Nathan Moore assisted  by Jon Murray with Alan Withers advising on strength and conditioning.

The girls are currently in the middle of a six week strength and conditioning programme which will be followed by a series of skills sessions in September before the youth season starts and then further skills sessions in April/May at the end of their season.

The girls have also been given individual strength and conditioning programmes to work on throughout the process!
