It looks as thought everything is organised for a fairly testing pre-season for Ulster with three tough matches over a 13 day period.

First up sees Ulster at Ravenhill on Friday 13th August for a 7:30pm kick off against a rejuvenated Bath in a game which should be more challenging than last season’s Heineken Cup outings. It’ll be an interesting pointer to see how both teams have progressed since those somewhat freakish games!

Saturday 21st sees Ulster travel over to The Stoop for a, still to be confirmed, 3:00pm kick off against London Harlequins. Last season’s choice to play some pre-season overseas reaped immediate rewards so hopefully Ulster will claim a third away win on English soil with this one. This fixture has the added bonus in that Ireland Women take on England Women nearby on the Friday night in the opening round of the IRB Women’s World Cup so it could be a nice little two match trip – give me a shout if anyone fancies the Ireland England game!

Ulster return to Ravers the following Thursday 26th for an evening fixture against Leeds Carnegie who have made some shrewd summer signings as they look to consolidate their position in the Guinness Premiership.

All in all a good statement of intent from Ulster with two “Marque Names” there and a tough enough encounter against a gritty Leeds side.

More than likely we’ll be without BJ and Pienaar and maybe missing some of the Irish boys as well but I just can’t wait to get a look at Muller and Wannenburg so roll on the next six weeks!

Is it not a bit silly to have a pre-season fixture against Bath when we’re playing them twice in the Heineken Cup?
