Friday 18th June. Rotorua, New Zealand.

The Irish dirt trackers lost out to New Zealand Maori by three points in this exciting match this morning.

The Maori go off to a flying start, cutting through the Irish defence with ease scoring two tries and a penalty to lead 15 – 0 after as many minutes. Ireland hit back with a penalty but things looked ominous when McAlister replied almost immediately with one of his own.

Ireland re-grouped, and with several of the Ulster forwards to the fore, concentrated on playing good basic rugby chipping away at the Maori lead to bring the half time score to 18 – 18 with Jonathan Sexton having a great day with the boot from the tee.

Ireland went into the lead in the second half with a try by Paddy Wallace after good work by Chris Henry and Geordan Murphy and it looked as though the game was there for the taking as the Maori committed a series of mistakes and definitely looked rattled.

However Ireland’s substitutions took the edge of their game and with Hayes, on for the impressive Court, contributing little around the pitch the Maori began to get on top throughout the . . .

WRONG ………………………… Grow up cheating is cheating. Ireland didn’t need to score on every occasion, one would have one the match.

As a certain Captain might have said “You stupid Boy”

    Raging

“Cheating” there is no such thing on a rugby pitch nearest thing to cheating on a rugby pitch is the guy who mouths at a ref or a player who feigns injury to get an opponent carded

The problem with rugby is refs who can’t ref a scrum if refs insisted that props kept the elbow of the unbound arm at shoulder height a lot fewer scrums would end up with props faces in the dirt.
Collapsing a scrum using pressure on the opponents arm or pulling him down by his jersey is the most dangerous thing in rugby England did it in virtually every scrum against Australia yet it was the Australians who were penalised.( gripe over)

If the ref hadn’t given the penalties do you really think Ireland would have scored on ever occassion ? — And it was penalties that brought Ireland back into the game.

Most penalties are the result of stupidity or a 50/50 situation — not cheating

You may call it indiscipline but I call it cheating. They constantly slowed the ball down illegally and even though they continued after the referee gave them a final warning he failed to produce the yellow card. If Ireland had a right wing they would have won.

Paddy W is one of those players who can raise his game in relation to those he is playing with and against . I have been of the opinion that Horgan no longer could cut it at International level for the last two years .

Unless Court was injured he did take a knock but played on to half time having looked to have recovered why was he subed at half time? — Maybe they (the management didn’t want him over exposed before next week ? The sooner Hayes says no more the better for all because It starting to look as if he will continue to be picked until he drops dead on the pitch.

At this time my Irish wingers in rank order would be T Bowe Trimble/Fitzgerald ( provided he recovers from injury)/ Earls Carr F Murphy a few others and then Horgan ( he starting to make Dowling look fast

I did say before tha game I had doubts about the backline defence and it appeared that Ireland would drown in a swamp of trys after 15 mins. as both forwards and backs struggled to obtain any possession and or make any tackles. Thankfully the forwards realised the ABM forwards could be held in the set peice scrums and the lineout held its own and they got their game together.

I think anyone who believes Ireland deserved to win Hasn’t grasped the fact that the ABMs scored 3 tries to one and it was only their indisapline that let Ireland go in at Half time 18 all

Henry had a solid game and the experrience will be to Ulsters benefit if he starts next week.

Watching the scrum halfs to date one wonders how Boss has has been omitted ToL and Redden both have veryt weak passes even when given good ball

The only reason the Ireland XV lost this match can be summed up in two words …..Shane Horgan. After his nightmare performances the last time Ireland were down under I fully expected him to never wear the green shirt again but the poisoned gnome keeps picking his favourites. Hopefully now he will be consigned bin. All three tries were scored down his wing where his positioning and tackling was woeful. He even had a clear shot to take his opposite number out when Gear fielded a high ball but Shaggy inexplicably came off second best. I say taxi for Horgan.

The funniest thing about the match was listening to the two NZ commentators ….. thick as pig shit and incapable of deciding the difference between O’Donoghue and Tuohy. The clue was one had a 4 and the other had a 5. Simple really, but try telling that to a New Zealander. Ba ba.
