At long last, after eleven years of hurt, Ulster have finally got the dream draw in the Heineken Cup with trips to Biarritz, Bath and Aironi (north Italy) all on the cards. Forget about the rugby, just worry about the trips! (Yes I know we had a similar draw in 05-06 just put it down to hyperbole and poetic license!)
The rugby side of things don’t look too bad either. I mean we’ve never lost to Bath in the competitive season 
, I don’t think we’ve ever been beaten by an Italian side and after our last couple of trips to the South of France I have a little nag at the back of my mind that keeps suggesting that we are due a win down there some time soon!
I reckon that Bath will be the toughest opponents this time round. The English juggernauts hit a rich vein of form after we dumped them out of Europe and they’ll certainly be wanting revenge for the two drubbings we gave them. Biarritz will not like travelling to Belfast, even though they beat us here in January 06 (I think we didn’t loose another game that season going on the win the league) and from what I remember of the games in Parc Aguilera Ulster were unlucky not to come away with a result both times.
What is even better is that Ulster look to be the favourite Irish side to progress. Leinster and Munster both have really tough groups with Leinster’s looking particularly brutal.
The first four rounds of fixtures should be out at the end of July – bring it on!

Pool 2: Leinster, ASM Clermont Auvergne, Saracens, Racing Metro 92
Pool 3: Munster, Ospreys, London Irish, Toulon.
Pool 4: Biarritz, Bath, Ulster, Aironi Rugby
Pool 5: Leicester, Scarlets, Perpignan, Benetton Treviso.
Pool 6: Toulouse, London Wasps, Glasgow Warriors, Newport Dragons.

yeah – we were unlucky in 2005 on a scorcher of an afternoon. we needed loads of beer to keep cool…….. or maybe it was the surfer that got us all hotted up ??
