The PigDogs are coming (again!)

The PigDogs RFC, from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada are planning on visiting and playing some rugby in Northern Ireland and Scotland next week.

They depart Halifax Thursday night and will be arriving in Belfast Friday afternoon, unless some big Ass Hole from Iceland gets in their way.

They are coming with a Men’s team, a Ladies team and many spectators, totalling 55 in all and they plan to play against Carrickfergus RFC on Sunday, Lismore RFC in Edinburgh on Wednesday and Dungannon RFC and Queens Women’s RFC next Saturday 22nd May.

If all goes well, they should enjoy playing some rugby and celebrating the game after each match with fellow rugby minded people.

Half will return to Canada on May 23rd and the other half will spend another week touring Ireland, taking in it’s sights and history.

This is their second trip to Belfast, as their Men’s team came over for three games in 2006 and had the time of their lives (even though they were accompanied by FRU favourites Young Man and Old Man)!  They certainly have warm memories of their last trip as the founder of the club Rick Kitchin recalls,

“We did not bring the skills and talent, nor the history for rugby that you posses, but we held our own in the pubs and brought much of your spirit back home with us.

We hope to capture the same mystic that your land and people showed us four years ago and to share the passion we have for rugby.

See you all in a couple of days.”

The FRU and InTouch Rugby will be covering their tour in Northern Ireland so there will be plenty of match pictures in InTouch and plenty of “Other” photos in the FRU so check back next week to see how the Canadian Tourists are getting on.
