It’s all tears and snotters over on the UAFC following Richard Mulligan’s late night announcement that Xavier Rush won’t be coming to Ulster after all!

The message board lawyers were out in force debating the minutiae of a contract they have never seen and the message board judges found Rush guilty and handed out sentences ranging in severity from public flogging all the way up to being forced to play for Malone. Good grief such over reaction, no man deserves to be forced to play for Malone.

As is the custom of message boards, hypocrisy abounds, as not one of the boarders crying foul would hesitate to act exactly as Xavier Rush should the situation ever arise and, of course, a transfer market for message board bull shitters opens up.

Me, I’m not too worried and given the form of Henry and Diack I don’t think Ulster are going to miss him too much. The man was always too much of a Blues player in my mind and while he may have played some of the best rugby of his life over the last few months and had a huge influence off the field the expectations that he would do the same for Ulster were pretty far fetched in my opinion.

If there is such a thing as natural justice  the snub will play on a few players minds and we’ll see a few more powerhouse displays across the backrow next season.

Outside of the last few months (coincidentally since he signed with Ulster) Rush’s performances at Cardiff had been patchy enough over the last five years with good displays, great displays and pretty average displays in equal measure. His influence off the pitch was such that over the last five years Cardiff could be regarded as the most under-performing Welsh side in the Magners League (yeah I know you could say that about any of them!).

Rush was a very good player who could occasionally be great and he would certainly have been a useful signing, but let’s be realistic, the likes of Martyn Williams had and has much more influence on and off the pitch for the Blues over the same period.

So what should Ulster do? Well, there’s not a lot really that they can do. Guess the amount that a tribunal would award in their favour and ask for a little less about sums it up as far as financial recompense is concerned.

Outside of finance I hope that someone has the nous to insist that Rush is not selected to play against Ulster ever again as I would hate to see the Ravenhill public embarrass themselves with constant abuse and heckling of Rush to the same level that Dergman and Junty did at The FRU Awards! :)

whilst the whole sorry episode leaves a distinct sour taste in the mouth I have to agree that Rush was a luxury we can’t afford, have already said on the UAFC site and will say it here Ulster have survived without Rush before he signed and Ulster will survive if Rush doesn’t come, hopefully it will gel the team together and make Ferris, Henry, Faloon, Pollock and Diack up their game and show that Rush will not be missed, though he does deserve to be heckled(friendly of course)

I look forward to drawing Cardiff in our Heineken Cup group next season. They are only an average Magners League team who where dumped out of the Heiny this year and lucky to get a place in the Challenge Cup. Bring them on.

In my defence at the alleged heckling incident on Fri night over the “I wish I hadn’t” award – there was some reference to a certain ‘Mozambique’ aquaintance and the right hon Dewi. To which he replied ‘ Its not that I wish I hadn’t …. but I wish that I’d done it more. I can understand this sentiment of Dewi’s entirely, but was just wondering and maybe a little surprised that as there was no photo of ‘the said ‘Sadie from Mozambique’ saying ” I wish I hadn’t”
