Strong rumours are coming out of South Africa that Sharks utility half back Ruan Pienaar has indeed signed for Ulster and will be available to play in Belfast from October 2010.
Rumours have been circulating on Twitter for a few days now and it appears that the story has finally gone to press with a local journalists who ”is so close to the Sharks team I’m surprised he doesn’t have his own jersey!” being the source that seems to have finally persuaded the Sharks fans that Pienaar is on his way at the end of the Currie Cup. You can view sharks fans reactions on Sharksworld here.
Whether Ulster choose to confirm the transfer in the near future is open to speculation following earlier “misunderstandings” over other scrum half signings and the current ongoing fiasco with Xavier “I want to stay now we won something” Rush and his much reported “agonizing decisions”.
Should Pienaar eventually sign for Ulster it may be some time before the Ulster faithful get a chance to see him run out sporting the Red Hand.
It would make sense if he did some UR publicity shoots when he’s in the UK early next month for the match against Wales but after that it’s back to Cape Town for a game against France quickly followed by a couple against Italy and then into the Tri Nations.
This will take our busy half back through to September and we may get to see him for a couple of games before he joins up with the South African touring party for their Home Nations tour in November.
We might get a couple more games in December and January before BJ and Ruan are allowed to return to South Africa as Ulster yet again fail to qualify for the European play off stages!
Provided he’s signed more than a one year contract we may see him get a run of games in November 2011!

Don’t get too excited. I reckon we won’t be seeing too much of him this side of Xmas and trying to sort out his international release in the RWC Season has been the delay!

This is not the RWC Season as so many posters suggest. THe RWC commences in September 2011 which is the season after next! Next years domestic season runs from September 2010 to May 2011.

You are quite right Raven, however I still think that Pienaar will want to be involved in the Tri-Nations and the SA tour of GB and Ire in November.
The guys on Sharksworld don’t expect to see him turning out for the Sharks in the Currie Cup but expect him to be with South Africa until the end of September.

Yes. It is probably UR putting the word out early to take the bad look of the Rush debacle which is obviously going to break soon. (officially)
