Day 3 at Carrickfergus saw the Abbey Ladies 10’s take centre stage.

The competition saw a strong invitational Wooden Spoon Lionesses side together with teams  from St Albans, Pontyclun and Tyne and Wear take on local sides Cooke, Belfast Harlequins, Carrick, City of Derry, Enniskillen and Queens.

Despite a strong showing from the Lionesses it was Cooke that claimed the spoils in a thrilling second half display which saw them turn the table on their first round match to win by 7 – 5. As a result of excellent performances in both  the semi-final and final, Cooke’s Liza Downey won the Newsletter Player of the Tournament award.

The beaten semi-finalists contested the Plate final with Welsh visitors Pontyclun Falcons beating City of Derry. (This despite accounting for a good part of the increased Bar take!)

The Bowl was won by OA Albans who beat Enniskillen in the final.

The presentations  on Sunday were made by the Mayor of Carrickfergus Borough, Alderman Patricia McKinney who also presented a cheque from the proceeds of the Sevens to the Wooden Spoon charity which supports disadvantaged children in the UK and Ireland.

Some great coverage of a brilliant weekend of rugby… just a shame you haven’t got any pics of the home side Carrick Ladies up on this gallery.

Yep sorry about that Hillary I never seemed to catch up with them on pitch one or two the whole day! I’ll make up for it this season – just let me know your first game and I’ll come along and do photos!
