ulster120white Ulster Head Coach Brian McLaughlin has named his starting XV, plus replacements, for Ulster’s Magners League fixture, against Scarlets, at Parc y Scarlets, this Friday 5th March, kick off 7.05pm.

After a home draw with Dragons in their last Magners League outing, Ulster head to Parc y Scarlets sitting in 6th place on the league table, with Scarlets 8 points behind in 9th position.

Commenting on the fixture, Ulster Coach Brian McLaughlin said:

“It is going to be an exceptionally tough game, the Scarlets at their home ground, in the Magners League. It doesn’t matter who you play at this stage, all these games are tough to win.

We are playing at the Parc y Scarlets, we were there a couple of weeks ago with the Ravens, so we know what to expect. It is going to be a hard match; they will make us fight for every blade of grass.

We have got to play out of our socks and be mentally prepared, if we are going to come away with the win, which we really need.”

In the pack a number of changes have been made; Tom Court dons the No 1 jersey, packing down beside hooker Nigel Brady. Dan Tuohy moves to blind side flanker, while Ed O’Donoghue and Ryan Caldwell partner in the 2nd row.

Chris Henry will once again captain the team.

The backs see Timoci Nagusa on the wing, with Simon Danielli starting the match on the bench.

Ulster: (1-8) Tom Court, Nigel Brady, Brendan Botha, Ed O’Donoghue, Ryan Caldwell, Dan Tuohy, David Pollock, Chris Henry (C). (15-9) Jamie Smith, Timoci Nagusa, Darren Cave, Paddy Wallace, Andrew Trimble, Ian Humphreys, Isaac Boss. (16-22) Andi Kyriacou, Bryan Young, Robbie Diack, Willie Faloon, Paul Marshall, Niall O’Connor, Simon Danielli

Definitely a few interesting selections there, but the biggest development is the addition of Tuohy at blindside with Caldwell partnering O’Donoghue in the second row.

Disappointed not to see Robbie ‘Soft Hands’ Diack starting as I think he adds a different dimension to Ulster’s broken play but it’s certainly a pack that will put itself about with the option of the softer skills of Kyriacou, Diack and Faloon to come off the bench.

Backs pretty much as expected with the exception of Nagusa getting a run ahead of Danielli but as Nagusa is more than likely playing for a contract next season this may be no bad thing.

It will be interesting to see how Tuohy gets on. Could he be in danger of going the same path as Matt McCullough? Second row to back row to first row in stand. :-)

Marshall as replacement SH ?????, considering all the “wisdom” from the UAFC concerning Marsh, this selection is a bit strange,

Yeah I missed that one in my rush to get up to Ravers for the Ballymena Methody semi final – another extraordinary last minute try for ‘mena.

I was surprised at the inclusion of Marshall after all the comments I heard following the Ravens game but there you go, maybe he’s being groomed for next season!

    absolute guff.

Approx 245 handling errors by Ulster in the first half. Slow ball everywhere, falling off tackles when not in possession, inept referee. Wish it wasnt on the telly!
