I’ve been caught on the hop this week as I’ve just noticed that the final round of the British and Irish Cup Pool fixtures have been split over two weekends.
This means that Ulster Ravens will go into their final fixture on March 12th knowing exactly what they will have to do to progress to the knock out stages.
Given the tight nature of the group I must say that this is a bit of a disappointing end to what has been a useful competition, with the Ravens having a bit of an unfair advantage over group rivals London Welsh.
Let’s hope the organisers look into this should they decide to continue with this competition next season.
The remaining fixtures are as follows.
Friday, 05 March 2010
Moseley v Bedford, Pool C, 19:45
Saturday, 06 March 2010
Birmingham & Solihull v Pontypridd, Pool D, 15:00

London Welsh v Llanelli, Pool C, 14:00

Depending on how they decide the criteria for spliting two teams tied on points, i.e. bonus points, head to head, the Ravens game could be a dead rubber or they will know a bp win takes them through. I know its a new competition but it would have been useful to know the rules at the start of it such as above and also how they decide who plays who in the SF and how that is decided.

Agree Neill, though UR are saying it’s based on the head to head I find that very unfair with only one fixture played against each team.
Wouldn’t be the first time this season that we’re told we’ve qualified for the knock out stages only to find that’s not the case!
Looks like London Welsh are losing out on two counts!
