Didn’t manage to get to this one and given the weather I’m sort of glad that arrangements fell through. Our man on the spot however phoned through his report as he trudged home sodden and dispirited after the game.
By all accounts it wasn’t much of a game with the weather playing a spoiling role. The Ravens started well, but fell away towards the end and were hanging on for the last quarter.
The most disappointing aspect was that a fairly senior pack failed to dominate and it was London Welsh who looked the stronger towards the end.
Marshall and Nagussa each scored a try for the Ravens with O’Connor adding one conversion and three penalties.
The result leaves The Ravens and London Welsh tied on points at the top of Pool C. The English Championship side are ahead on points scored and tries scored and the Ravens now face the prospect of failing to qualify for the Semi-Final stages despite not losing a match, assuming they win the final game against Aberavon on 12th March.
Ulster Rugby are implying that the head to head result will be the decider so, if that is the case, as long as the Ravens match the London Welsh result on the final weekend they should still qualify. This has yet to be confirmed.
What ever the connotations it is likely that anything less than a five point win will see the Ravens, like the senior side, fail to qualify for the business end of the competition.

That is a fairly positive spin on the game to my mind. If the guys can’t cope with a bit of Belfast drizzle then they shouldn’t be there. If Marshall is on his way as rumoured it is no surprise as his passing was simply sub standard. O’connor was taking ball of his feet andf generally anywhere but straight into his hands. That was just Marshall’s passing, his decision making was once again dodgey with box kicks that really did nothing. He wasn’t alone with a sub standard performance but he stood out in that respect.
Seems to me the team togetherness has tailed off as the contract end of the season is at its height with player’s minds now not solely focussed on team performance.
Coach must address.
