I am being a miserable old git this week! Not only has the RBS Six Nations failed to inspire but I’m somewhat disappointed by the undue strength of the Ulster Ravens side that has been selected to play against Llanelli tomorrow night at Parc-y-Scarlets in the British and Irish Cup. KO 7:30pm
To tell the truth, we sent out worse sides in the Magners League over the last couple of seasons, and while it is very important that our front line stars and those just bubbling under get plenty of game time, I would have like to have seen some more of the young guns that featured so well last week against Leinster, to have got a bit of a run as well.
After losing their first two fixtures in the opening rounds, Llanelli are practically out of the B & I Cup and with indifferent League form of late they’ll be pinning all their hopes of glory on next weekend’s SWALEC Cup. I haven’t seen the Llanelli side announced, but I’m not expecting a strong selection and from the talk on their website it looks as though they’ll be fielding their youngsters.
So, on paper, it should be a bit of a one sided match with Ulster romping home with something to spare, setting things up nicely for the “winner takes all” home fixture against London Welsh at the end of the month.
All well and good, but speaking personally, I would have preferred to have seen the likes of Craig Gilroy, Ian Porter, Paddy McAllister and Adam Macklin get a run out.
Nice to see Robbie Diack returning from injury, let’s hope he comes through the game without any problems.
Ulster Ravens: 1. Bryan Young, 2. Andy Kyriacou (Captain), 3. Declan Fitzpatrick, 4. Neil McComb, 5. Ryan Caldwell, 6. Thomas Anderson, 7. David Pollock, 8. Robbie Diack, 9. Cillian Willis, 10. Niall O’Connor, 11. Timoci Nagusa, 12. Ian Whitten 13. Mark McCrea, 14. Tommy Seymour, 15. Jamie Smith. Replacements: 16 Nigel Brady, 17 Adam Macklin, 18 Ed O’Donoghue, 19 Willie Faloon, 20 Paul Marshall, 21 Ian Humphreys and 22 Darren Cave.

Oh I say ! What a strong team, its a pity they didn’t pick Trimble, Boss, Botha, Tuohy and Henry. They have nothing on this weekend.

maybe we can track down Trimble and give him his player of the Month Award!
