The time for speculation is over and Ulster Ravens have announced their match day 22 for this season’s make or break British and Irish Cup match against London Welsh tomorrow (Friday) night. KO 7:30pm
With the B & I Cup now looking like Ulster’s only avenue for silverware this season it’s no surprise that the management team have went for a strong side, but spare a thought for poor old Tom Court who has went from International duty against France two weeks ago to starting loose head for the Ravens. All credit to the big man that he plays where required without a grumble.
(1-8) Tom Court, Nigel Brady, Bryan Young, Neil McComb, Ryan Caldwell, Thomas Anderson, Willie Faloon, Robbie Diack. (9-15) Paul Marshall, Niall O’Connor, Timoci Nagusa, Ian Whitten, Michael Allen, Tommy Seymour, Mark McCrea. (16-22) Andi Kyriacou, Alan Whitten, Ed O’Donoghue, David Pollock, Cillian Willis, Ian Humphreys, Darren Cave.
As we said earlier in the week, the Ravens need to be pushing for a bonus point win if qualification for the semi-finals is to remain in their hands and in all honesty with the strength of the side a bonus point win is really the only acceptable result.
It really is a back line with pace to burn and hopefully O’Connor will get a good supply of ball from Marshall to allow him to spread the ball wide at every opportunity. Certainly Nagusa and Seymour will be attacking as often as possible and McCrea, with a chance to put his hand up for next season, should provide a degree of solidity at the back.
It’ll be interesting to see how Allen and Seymour get on in such illustrious company but I am disappointed that Craig Gilroy didn’t get a run out.
