whiteleaf120 The Leaf Properties Lanzarote Player of the Month award for January goes to Andrew Trimble. It’s a welcome return to form for this classy player who put in some barnstorming performances throughout the month. His try against Bath in the Heineken Cup will stay in the memory for a long long time.

We’ll try and catch up with Trimble sometime this month when he’s not away on Ireland duty, plus we’ve still to catch up with big Fitzy from last month and that’s one I’m particularly looking forward to!

It was an interesting month’s voting as the list of the top six shows:

  • Trimble 27%
  • Tuohy 14%
  • Ferris 13%
  • Boss 11%
  • Court 9%
  • Botha 4%

Dan Tuohy has certainly made an impact and has been an unexpected bonus this season having come from the relative obscurity of the English Championship. As we predicted a few months ago his turn of pace now means he’s being looked at as a possible back row player but let’s hope he doesn’t suffer from being too versatile.

Playing behind a hard working pack Isaac Boss has been able to showcase his undoubted skills and will be missed next season. Having chatted to him a few times recently I know he’ll always have a strong affection for Ulster, and you never know he may be back!

It’s good to see some of the dominant front row being appreciated by the fans with Court and Botha getting well deserved recognition. Court is also suffering from his flexibility, being able to play both sides of the scrum, but I reckon he’ll be the man in possession at tight head for Ireland come this time next year.

Ferris continues to astound and delight with his power, pace and commitment every time he pulls on the Red Hand. Let’s hope he stays injury free to become the force in World Rugby that he appears destined to be.
