ulster120white Ulster Rugby have announced a 24 man squad for the Boxing Day encounter with Leinster at the RDS. KO 5:30pm.

Ulster have withdrawn all four of the senior Irish Squad players for this holiday encounter but with four big games coming up in January this may be no bad thing.

FORWARDS: Declan Fitzpatrick, Bryan Young, BJ Botha, Nigel Brady, Andy Kyriacou, Ed O’Donoghue, Dan Tuohy, Ryan Caldwell, Chris Henry, David Pollock, Willie Faloon, TJ Anderson. BACKS: Jamie Smith, Clinton Schifcofske, Simon Danielli, Darren Cave, Ian Whitten, Timoci Nagusa, Ian Humphreys, Niall O’Connor, Isaac Boss, Paul Marshall, Cillian Willis, Jonny Shiells

Not that I’m suggesting that Ulster are going down to Dublin expecting to lose. No, I think that Ulster sometimes rely too much on their big name players and, in my opinion, have played their best rugby when they haven’t had a full strength squad so I’m actually quite looking forward to this game now.

It certainly will be interesting how the “small, but perfectly formed” back row performs without Ferris or Diack.

Mind you with “Gorgeous” George Clancy referring it probably doesn’t matter what team we send down, the game is going to be a lottery anyway!

Providing everyone is fit and well I expect to see Anderson and Marshall drop out of the match day squad.

Anyone going to watch the match in The Rosie this weekend please note that it will be shown in the Bar, not the Lounge.
