Caw caw! It looks as though The Ravens will be flying high on Friday night as Ulster Rugby have announced a particularly strong side for their opening fixture in the British and Irish Cup!
The squad for the game against English Championship side Bedford Blues is packed with every available senior pro topped up with a sprinkling of youngsters with the Ulster management team looking to maintain a winning momentum at Fortress Ravenhill.
FORWARDS: Nigel Brady; Paddy McAllister; Bryan Young; Ed O’Donoghue; Andi Kyriacou; Dan Tuohy; Neil McComb; Willie Faloon; Tamaiti Horua; Declan Fitzpatrick; David Pollock; Ryan Caldwell; Justin Fitzpatrick; Thomas Anderson. BACKS: Jamie Smith; Chris Cochrane; Tommy Seymour; Niall O’Connor; Ian Whitten; Paul Marshall; Isaac Boss; Ian Humphreys; Jonny Shiels; Cillian Willis; Clinton Schifcofske
I suspect that The Ravens will start with the fringe players, where selected, and bring on the big names in the second half if things aren’t going to plan but such is the Management teams desire to create a winning environment that they may roll out the big guns from the start. As such I’m not going to hazard a guess to the starting 15 and in the scheme of things I would have preferred to have seen Kyriacou, Boss and Humphreys all called into the Ireland squad for the Fiji game, but Ireland’s loss is Ulster’s gain.
Can’t find any squad details for the Blues as yet but it looks as though they’ll be travelling to Ravenhill with a little confidence under their belt having beaten B&I Cup group rivals Moseley in last weekends English Championship encounter. A welcome result after losing three on the trot.
