fru120 Arrived at the ground at 6:30 to be greeted by the happy campers at the URSC stall. I’d only popped in to get some shelter from the rain but they were all there, Kimble and Kimble’s fans!

When the rain eventually subsided I made my way to the Scoop Bar. On route I passed the “trio of power” at Ulster Rugby, McLaughlin, David Humphreys and Jonny Bell! McLaughlin was obviously saying something of interest to Davy to get him to get his tongue out!

Just around the corner I bumped into Rory. Not literally now, if that was the case he’d be out for two seasons! He was looking sprightly though and informed me that he’d be having an operation on Thursday next on his C5 vertebrae and stated that he hopes to play some part in the seasons finale, all being well. After informing him that I’d brought my boots in case the new boy Kyri struggled I wished him all the best for a speedy recovery.

Eventually made it to the Scoop only to find world famous Newcastle supporter Mars Bar in some very dodgy company!

I was also cornered by a group of reprobates claiming to be looking for Youngman as he owes them several pints following his non-revelation about new signing Tamaiti Horua.

A quick pint later and it was out to the Prom to start the hugely popular live text cast for our exiled supporters. Trying to find a quiet spot away from my regular standing place so I could concentrate on my texts I was somewhat dismayed to be quickly surrounded by refugees from the terrace!

What an eye opener that was as these drunken oiks proceeded to inform all and sundry that Rory was not injured but was in fact taking a year out as he was unhappy with his team mates and seemingly Paddy Wallace has signed for Leinster! The sooner the terrace reopens and this flotsam is washed up back onto that far flung shore the better!

Despite, or maybe because of, these additional commentaries I thoroughly enjoyed the game. Sure there were plenty of mistakes, and there was the usual unwarranted criticism of man of the match Isaac Boss, but the small crowd did make plenty of noise and the small but very vocal Newcastle contingent punched well above their weight.

I, surprisingly, enjoyed the texting and it certainly keeps you focused on the game. I thought it went quite well despite a giggling Dergman constantly ringing me mid text!

Roll on Wednesday and what should be a different game against Viadanna. We’ll be texting that one as well, Dergman permitting!

Be there or be square!

(Ed: Surely that should be “Be there or follow the live and exclusive coverage on The FRU!”)

I would hastily add Parky that the oiks were either side of me, not behind me!
