I’m a bit remiss this week in getting my report in, simply because I was so disappointed at how easily the Boks swept aside Australia in their 25 – 32 win at the Subiaco Oval, Perth.
Quite frankly, the Boks were good, but Australia were abysmal with their talented backs not up to speed in defence. If Matt Giteau hadn’t managed to bag 22 points from his individual excellence the score would have been a more one sided reflection of the game and Giteau’s team mates definitely owe him a big thank you for rescuing a bonus point and giving them a glimmer of hope for next weeks game in Brisbane.
As it stands though, it looks as though South Africa will wrap up the Tri Nations in a weeks time making the fixture in Hamilton, against the All Blacks, a dead rubber with only pride at stake.
Such was South Africa’s dominance that my own personal golden boy James O’Connor didn’t get a look in and the Australian pack are going to have to be a lot more competitive if their (still?) exciting backs are going to stand a chance of making inroads against a hugely confident Bok’s side.

True, Giteau had a good second half, but he wasn’t looking too good in the first. Isn’t he the one that blundered to allow Jacque Fourie to run through unopposed? He also missed several kicks, including that drop-kick conversion attempt! I must say he looked a lot better when Genia and Cooper came on – I think Burgess’s poor passing may have disrupted him quite a lot in the first half.
