Ulster’s Heineken Cup kicks off with a home game against Bath on Friday 9th October. This is followed by an away game to Edinburgh on Saturday 17th October and then back to back fixtures with French giants Stade Francais, at home on Saturday 12th December and then away to Brussels of all places for the return fixture on Saturday 19th December. The dates for the home match against Edinburgh and the away trip to Bath, both in January, are yet to be confirmed. (Full details below.)
I’m quite pleased with how these fixtures have turned out as they give Ulster every chance of qualifying. The first three games are definitely winnable if the team perform to their capabilities. Neither Bath nor Stade will be relishing their visits to Ravenhill and, with a good start to the season it’s is highly likely that we will have more supporters at Murrayfield than Edinburgh.
The fact that the Stade away game is in Brussels gives Ulster a welcome break, as we’ve never won in Paris. Edinburgh at home is our potential banana skin and will need careful navigation but hopefully by the time we visit Bath our hosts will be concentrating on the Premiership.
