The big lump of prime Ulster beef that is Stephen Ferris is going to have a busy day tomorrow. Not only does he get his first start for The Lions in tomorrow afternoons match, against my favourite South African team the Cheetahs (aka The Orange Free State), but he’s then got to hot foot it back to Newforge for The Front Row Union Player of the Year Award.
Thankfully he showed on Wednesday that he has a great turn of pace but he’s going to need a good run up to get airborne and he better slip into light speed fairly quickly if he’s going to make it back here before his soup gets cold. I’m fairly confident that he will make it as he’s already texted in his order – though how he got my phone number I don’t know? Hope he doesn’t start calling me when he’s pissed!
McGeehan has made an interesting team selection for tomorrow’s game to say the least. It’s certainly a rock hard back row with Ferris partnering Worlsley and the abrasive Powell but it looks as though the Ulster man is going to have to do a lot of egg chasing and it’ll be very interesting to see how he copes.
I have concerns over Earls, Williams, Ellis, Ford and O’Callaghan and they certainly need huge games if they’re going to feature at the sharp end of the tour but it is good that everyone is getting an opportunity, unlike four years ago. It does strike me as odd though that there is no out and out back row replacement on the bench with Hines and Shaw being selected. One would nearly think that the selections have been made to give a certain young back row the chance to make a big statement!
Lets hope our Ferris doesn’t have a day off!

Still don’t know but I think UR give out my number to all the players and tell them to put it on their banned list!
I won’t know if he phoned last night as I left my phone up at Newforge. I’ll have to dash back up and collect it , and my car, and my laptop and my speaker system…
