There were cheers in Onslow Parade this morning as white smoke was spotted pluming out of the windows of the Chapel of Rugby at Ravenhill.
It is understood that Mike Reid, desperate to get a quick decision on Ulster’s new coach appointment, locked the members of the Sacred College of the Professional Management Committee overnight in the dinette extension of his office. In an effort to encourage a quick vote the Sacred College members were fed only with bread and water and were not allowed to remove their blazers for the duration, despite it being an unseasonably warm evening.
We have been led to believe that the Sacred College actually made their decision after 15 minutes but Reid kept them locked in his dinette for a further 8 hours having fallen asleep on his office sofa after quaffing a particularly fine Chianti with his supper.
The smoke spotted coming out of the Chapel of Rugby is thought to have been caused by one of the members of the Sacred College spontaneously igniting when he realised he was going to miss his tee off time! However as no one knows haw many members there were of the Sacred College of the Professional Management Committee we cannot confirm of deny if one is missing!
Joking aside, I think this is a great decision for Ulster Rugby. Hill, a respected player at Bath, made his reputation as a coach with Bristol after a brief stint at Gloucester. Well known for his hard nosed approach to team matters it’ll definitely be an interesting few months as we compare and contrast his dour and pragmatic approach to the media with those of his predecessor!

Fantastic news. A no-nonsense approach will be a pleasant change at Ravenhill after the Master of the Soundbite vacating the premises. Is the Raven still Raging, i wonder??
