Progress! What Progress?

Ulster Rugby Euro Rankings by month

People have been speculating on various websites as to the extent of Ulster Rugby’s improvement or otherwise this year. Wins, losses, tries for, tries against, age of players and Magners League standings have all been looked at, but just to be different we’ve decided to look at the Eurorankings over the last twelve months.

While things have been erratic it is hard to argue that progress has not been made. This time last year Ulster were sitting at 30th in the Eurorankings table and after a shaky enough start to the season things got worse with Ulster dropping to 35th by Christmas. Things turned round for Ulster in January with wins over Munster and Harlequins moving Ulster up to 23rd and since then they’ve bounced around in the mid twenties until away wins over Glasgow and Connacht have taken Ulster to their current highest standing this year of 22nd.

With only one fixture remaining this season it is unlikely that Ulster will improve on this setting but there is a possibility that they may slip a couple of places. Irrespective of where they do finish up this time next week it can’t be denied that things have improved. Next season Ulster need to slip back into the Top 20 to continue the progress and hopefully this will be achieved with a bit more consistency at home to bring the crowds back.

There are a lot of young local players coming through so make sure you don’t miss out on what should be an exciting season. Visit Ulster Rugby and book your season ticket now.

Let’s get the old/new ground rocking again!
