Thanks to our inside contacts The FRU can exclusively reveal that Ulster Rugby will shortly be announcing the signing of England’s World Cup Hero Jonny Wilkinson.
It is expected that Wilkinson will be signed on a £500,000 two year contract , subject to fitness checks and also subject to a 90% corporate commitment on the new stand development. Mike Reid of Ulster Rugby expects that this high profile signing will be the final incentive needed to complete the corporate backing for his three year Ravenhill master plan which will take Ulster back to the elite of European Rugby.
Through our contacts we managed to contact Wilkinson’s agent, Rolf Lapio, who gave us this statement.
“It took a lot of persuasion to get Jonny to leave Newcastle but Mr Reid put together such an effective presentation that Jonny is very excited about this new opportunity. The plans for the development of Ravenhill are exceptional, and this coupled with the coaching ability of Matt Williams and the excellent training and rehab facilities on offer made this an offer that Jonny could not refuse. He is looking forward to playing in the Magners League and the European Cup and hopes that he can help take Ulster back to the top of European Rugby over the next two years. “
It is expected that Ulster Rugby will announce this signing in the next two weeks once the corporate backing has been completed.
