Ulster outclassed a poor Scarlets side in front of a worryingly small crowd of 8,000 on Friday night.

After a cagey start from both sides Ulster eventually got a breakthrough on the 25th minute with a try from the impressive Cave after an excellent chip from Humphreys.

By this stage Ulster looked to be dominating proceedings with the young back row of Ferris, Pollock and Diack getting on top of their opposite numbers.

The rejuvenated Danielli added a second try on the 34th minute and at this stage a comfortable bonus point win looked on the cards. Unfortunately Ulster appeared to go into their shells and it wasn’t until the 64th minute that young Pollock dashed thirty yards for the third try after a break by Boss.

The bonus point still looked on but a raft of substitutions by both sides and the sin binning of McCrea (on for Steinmetz) took a lot of the momentum out of the game.

Scarlets kept chipping away and finally got a try, after an outrageous forward pass, to bring the final score to 26 – 16. A score which somewhat flattered a struggling Scarlets side.

With the front five and the back row dominating their opponents and Humphreys completely outplaying Lions front runner Jones, Ulster can look forward to the trip to Parc Y Scarlets with a degree of confidence.

Hopefully there will be a good travelling support to roar the boys on for a rare away win.
