Norman X and his son Gary X celebrate buying a round.
An extraordinary thing happened at the Ulster v Scarlets game on Friday night. Such was the excitement generated by Ulster’s powerful performance that a man from Omagh got so excited that he actually bought a round of drinks.
It’s nearly ten years since the last time this happened, 30th January 1999, when a young Norman X bought a round of drink in a Dublin pub following Ulster’s glorious victory in the Heineken Cup. The fact that the round came to nearly 25 Euro scarred Norman for a considerable time and it is only now that he found the courage to make the offer again.
However when Norman found out that his round of four drinks came to a staggering £14 he was heard to murmur, “It’ll be another ten years before I buy another one!”
Is this an omen? In 1999 Ulster won their group with four wins after a dodgy enough start and Norman bought a round of drinks!! The coincidences are just too extraordinary!
Do you have any other 1999 coincidences? Are Ulster destined to win again in 2009? Let us know below.
