UW-Milwaukee Lady Panthers took a huge step forward in their quest to be promoted to Midwest Division One by beating number four seeds the University of Minnesota, Duluth.
Despite a 400 mile round trip and the fact that The Panthers were missing some key players the girls settled in quickly and immediately put the larger Duluth pack under pressure and were first on the score sheet with a blind side try by wing Bri Jones.
The Lady Panthers began to dominate the scrum and after a steal against the head. Scrum-half Brittany Houston took the ball and touched down for her first try of the day.
The Panthers makeshift back-line began to assert itself and with good continuity in the loose, backed up by good support play from the pack Mollie Martin took the ball wide and rounded her opponent and touched down for a try of her own.
With the lead now at 15-0, the Lady Panthers began to play more confidently and move the ball around the field with Brittany Houston dotting down for her second try to increase the lead to 20-0.
This was quickly followed up by try scoring legend Brittany Biedenbender who took advantage of an overlap and touched down with Maggie Reidy slotting the conversion.
Inside centre Julia Thorne was next to get on the score sheet powering through several defenders to touch down. Maggie Reidy was again successful with the conversion.
Brittany Houston closed out the scoring for the half, with her third try giving the Panthers a lead of 39-0.
Flanker Jordan Belmarez opened the scoring in the second half with a powerful try and Maggie Reidy added another two points. The Bied found space on the outside for her second try of the day when she touched down in the corner. Brittany Houston quickly went over for her fourth, followed by Julia Thorne. Flanker Kara Knox found in-goal with a try of her own and Brittany Houston completed the rout with her fifth try.
